What to Wear Cheltenham Races

Whether you are there to shop until you drop or with an eye for a winner what to wear at Cheltenham Races is always a dilemma. With the odds on this Cheltenham being a cold one layering is essential. During the last few years racing has changed especially in what people wear. Looking at the terraces you’d be forgiven for thinking that anything goes and indeed it does. From little black dresses to traditional tweed suits every style is catered for.

For me it isn’t Cheltenham without a little nod to tweed. I may not wear a full suit but I like an element of my outfit to reflect that we are celebrating one of the countryside’s greatest traditions. This year I shall be donning my Alan Paine mini under my cashmere navy coat, (available online).

Teamed with cashmere jumper to keep me warm and my favourite boots to see me through a long day of standing and I am ready for whatever the race circuit can throw at me.

This season I am just a little bit obsessed with the new Dubarry tweeds we have in stock at the moment. I love their understated Cape. So versatile............

Come to the shop to view the whole collection....

Celebrate the new season with A Shooting Lesson With Abbey Ling!
Celebrate the new season with A Shooting Lesson With Abbey Ling!

As part of the Midland Game Fair Abbey Ling will be joining us on the Bredon Hill Stand on Gunmakers Row on Sunday the 18th September from 11-2pm to answer your shooting questions. Not only that but we will be offering one lucky person the opportunity to have a shooting lesson with Abbey.

Abbey's c.v. certainly is impressive.  Abbey was the first woman to be crowned British champion three years in a row. She won Commonwealth team silver in 2010 before becoming a world champion and a European Championships silver medallist in 2013. Ling competed in the women’s trap at Baku 2015 and won team gold alongside Kirsty Barr and Charlotte Kerwood in the 2015 World Championships in Lonato, it is easy to see why having tuition with someone like Abbey is a once in a lifetime experience and certainly not to be missed.

The competition is open to all - If you can't make it to the Game Fair but still want to enter, all you need to do is to email  Win Abbey Shooting to info@bredonhillshooting.co.uk

HUNTER WELLY SALE
HUNTER WELLY SALE

With the winter weather in full swing here at HQ it is difficult to think of a time when I have been out of my wellies. With muddy puddles everywhere I look, be it the farm, shop or out and about the right footwear has become essential. Thus the perfect timing to tell you all of our Fantastic Hunter Welly Sale.

There are so many fantastic welly boots in the market place but for me I need something that will really put up with some stick at an affordable price. The obvious answer if you are going to keep with a quintessentially British brand is Hunter.

The Hunter brand has long been synonymous with British wellingtons and increasingly the reach of the Hunter boot has broadened to grace the feet of festival goers, fashionista  farmers and even I am reliably told soldiers in the field. Most importantly to me my trusty Hunters put up with all the foul weather activities that my family can throw at them from jumping in muddy puddles with my  active 3 year old to being dragged down endless muddy tracks by my lovely but ill-mannered pointer!

I also love what they stand for - that go out and explore whatever the weather, that pioneering not for quitters British spirit, which is what I’d love my life to be all about!!

And whilst I may not ever be as cool as the girl in this clip it's certainly something I aspire to!!

Why not Grab yourself a pair starting from £64!

What to wear at Cheltenham Races

What to Wear Cheltenham Races

Always a dilemma for this season is what to wear at the many racing events throughout the country, Cheltenham is no exception. Racing during this season is all about warmth whilst maintaining an immaculately groomed look. Beautiful coats, bags hats and boots are the order of the day. Having attended Cheltenham Races myself throughout the season I know all too well that what looks like a mild autumn day can quickly turn with enough wind and rain to batter even the most hardy into the bar. So if you want to be warm and still maintain a beautifully groomed appearance here are our top tips.

Layer, Layer Layer! At Cheltenham races you can experience 4 seasons in one day so the likely hood is you need to be thinking about tailoring your look so that you can layer up or down to suit the conditions.

So pick your favourite base layer and build around that. A comfy cashmere sweater or beautiful blouse that will make sure you look your best in the box /bar as well as out on the grandstand. I like the Katie cable knit sweater from Jack Murphy. The cable knit is the perfect size and so versatile that it easily becomes a wardrobe basic.

Choose a coat or jacket you love the reality is you may be spending the bulk of your time in it. Choose something that compliments your colouring but also stands out elegantly from the crowd. Tweed tailored coats are a Cheltenham classic our favourites this season are the Alan Paine Richmond and Jack Murphy’s Paige with its luxurious Sherpa shearling.   Waterproof coats have moved on a lot since the good old days and a waterproof coat can be beautiful especially in the many treated tweeds that are on the market today. The Schoffel Ladies Tweed Ptarmigan is difficult to beat, the tweed is completely waterproof but the colours are beautiful and can be easily complimented with pieces you already have in your wardrobe. Down for me is the obvious choice I love the Mayfair from Schoffel it is beautifully tailored and styled without losing any of its warmth.

Choose sensible footwear. At Cheltenham I often see ladies hobbling back from the course in the highest of heels. It is a long day so no matter what you wear on your feet, it needs to be comfortable and stylish. I love these boots by the Spanish Boot Company. Featured here in camel they are a stylish but comfortable choice. The heel is just enough to make the whole look elevated but not enough to mean that you have to be carried to car after a long day.

If you want to get ahead get a hat! Hats provide the perfect polished look to any outfit. Be it a fascinator or a full on Failsworth trilby. Tweed is another nice choice, its worthwhile remembering that you need not wear tweed head to foot to complete your look a tweed hat can inject a bit of colour and texture to your outfit overall.

Whatever you do next weekend at Chetenham Races we hope that you have an amazing few days. Don’t forget visit us in the Shopping Village.
