What to Wear Cheltenham Races
Always a dilemma for this season is what to wear at the many racing events throughout the country, Cheltenham is no exception. Racing during this season is all about warmth whilst maintaining an immaculately groomed look. Beautiful coats, bags hats and boots are the order of the day. Having attended Cheltenham Races myself throughout the season I know all too well that what looks like a mild autumn day can quickly turn with enough wind and rain to batter even the most hardy into the bar. So if you want to be warm and still maintain a beautifully groomed appearance here are our top tips.
Layer, Layer Layer! At Cheltenham races you can experience 4 seasons in one day so the likely hood is you need to be thinking about tailoring your look so that you can layer up or down to suit the conditions.
So pick your favourite base layer and build around that. A comfy cashmere sweater or beautiful blouse that will make sure you look your best in the box /bar as well as out on the grandstand. I like the Katie cable knit sweater from Jack Murphy. The cable knit is the perfect size and so versatile that it easily becomes a wardrobe basic.
Choose a coat or jacket you love the reality is you may be spending the bulk of your time in it. Choose something that compliments your colouring but also stands out elegantly from the crowd. Tweed tailored coats are a Cheltenham classic our favourites this season are the Alan Paine Richmond and Jack Murphy’s Paige with its luxurious Sherpa shearling. Waterproof coats have moved on a lot since the good old days and a waterproof coat can be beautiful especially in the many treated tweeds that are on the market today. The Schoffel Ladies Tweed Ptarmigan is difficult to beat, the tweed is completely waterproof but the colours are beautiful and can be easily complimented with pieces you already have in your wardrobe. Down for me is the obvious choice I love the Mayfair from Schoffel it is beautifully tailored and styled without losing any of its warmth.
Choose sensible footwear. At Cheltenham I often see ladies hobbling back from the course in the highest of heels. It is a long day so no matter what you wear on your feet, it needs to be comfortable and stylish. I love these boots by the Spanish Boot Company. Featured here in camel they are a stylish but comfortable choice. The heel is just enough to make the whole look elevated but not enough to mean that you have to be carried to car after a long day.
If you want to get ahead get a hat! Hats provide the perfect polished look to any outfit. Be it a fascinator or a full on Failsworth trilby. Tweed is another nice choice, its worthwhile remembering that you need not wear tweed head to foot to complete your look a tweed hat can inject a bit of colour and texture to your outfit overall.
